Albany, capital city of New York state, is home to high quality entertainment venues such as The Egg, The Times Union Center, and The Palace Theater, but what many people don’t know is that the capital region is home to one of the oldest comedy clubs, and one of the fastest budding comedy scenes in the country.
Established in an old, run down diner in 1983, the Comedy Works is the premiere location in the Capital region for quality stand-up comedy. Started by Capital Region local Tom Nicci, and passed on to his son Tom Nicci Jr., the Comedy Works has hosted such comedy talent as Ray Romano, Lewis Black, Jim Gaffigan, John Pinette, Rodney Dangerfield, and many more. Currently located in the ballroom of the Best Western hotel on Wolfe Road in Albany, the Comedy Works continues to deliver national headliners alongside local comedians to provide friendly, funny live comedy to local patrons.
Alongside one of the oldest comedy clubs in the country is one of the nations fastest growing local comedy scenes. Every week, all of the capital region, open mic’s and talent showcases take place, where comics ranging from first timers to local national touring headliners get on stage to test out their new material, build their stage presence, or just get up their to make their friends laugh. Whether you are in Albany, Schenectady, Delmar, or Troy, there are opportunities to get on stage and give the big bad world of stand-up comedy a shot.

Happy 4th of July
It's Independence Day! Happy Birthday America!
Truthfully, I'm not a very patriotic kind of person. I live in a small town in upstate New York, and we have our fireworks the last Friday of June every year, so most of the celebration with friends took place last weekend, rather than today. Fireworks are illegal to purchase in New York state, so tonight has been a relatively quiet evening. My mother grilled sausages and hamburgers for a late lunch, my brother and I made a cake, we had some potato salad. It was a pretty quiet day for me.
Browsing the web today I have stumbled upon an interesting 4th of July article. Posted on Digg earlier was "7 Things That Will Happen at Your Family 4th of July BBQ". It made me giggle but I thought the image for the last thing: "Someone Who Shouldn't Wear a Swimsuit Will Wear One," was a little graphic.
So, here are some of this year's fireworks in Savannah, GA, thanks to eastnewyorkent.
[EDIT 11:19PM] I spoke too soon. The neighbors down the block from me have just started shooting off their fireworks.

This blog
So...this blog has gone nowhere, I have no real followers; I mean, how many of the 4 of you that I have actually read the stuff I write in here? Anyway, I am gonna start moving this Blog in the direction of a real news blog, reflecting on the news of the day with my own view on it as it happens.
I guess the first thing I should do to if I am going to give my opinion of things to potentially total strangers, is to give you a basic overview of who I am and what I'm about.
I am currently 19 years old, and the eldest of three boys in my household. When I was seven my parents got divorced, and my mother got custody of me and my brothers. My mother was a writer for a small newspaper on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the 90's, and is now a social worker in the Capital Region of New York. My father who passed a year ago to the day Thursday was a stand up comic working in regional clubs all over the country, settling in New York for a period of time before I was born. He continued comedy till his passing, picking up some very odd jobs over the period of my life.
Both of my parents influenced the development of my left wing political ideology, agnostic religious views, and snappy, yet sometimes overly sarcastic sense of humor. Somehow during my lifetime I managed to develop myself into a big time computer geek, gamer, comic book lover, and Beatles enthusiast. My views on freedom of information and internet regulations will be the top two things I keep on my radar when I am looking for topics for posts, but if something sparks my eye, be sure that I will be writing about it.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog.
