Albany, capital city of New York state, is home to high quality entertainment venues such as The Egg, The Times Union Center, and The Palace Theater, but what many people don’t know is that the capital region is home to one of the oldest comedy clubs, and one of the fastest budding comedy scenes in the country.
Established in an old, run down diner in 1983, the Comedy Works is the premiere location in the Capital region for quality stand-up comedy. Started by Capital Region local Tom Nicci, and passed on to his son Tom Nicci Jr., the Comedy Works has hosted such comedy talent as Ray Romano, Lewis Black, Jim Gaffigan, John Pinette, Rodney Dangerfield, and many more. Currently located in the ballroom of the Best Western hotel on Wolfe Road in Albany, the Comedy Works continues to deliver national headliners alongside local comedians to provide friendly, funny live comedy to local patrons.
Alongside one of the oldest comedy clubs in the country is one of the nations fastest growing local comedy scenes. Every week, all of the capital region, open mic’s and talent showcases take place, where comics ranging from first timers to local national touring headliners get on stage to test out their new material, build their stage presence, or just get up their to make their friends laugh. Whether you are in Albany, Schenectady, Delmar, or Troy, there are opportunities to get on stage and give the big bad world of stand-up comedy a shot.
